The Centre for Criminology and Victimology at NLU Delhi launched an accreditation course on Victim Advocacy aimed at training public-spirited professionals to meet the needs of victims.
The course equipped both system and community advocates with knowledge and training on issues such as victims’ legal framework, rights, assistance, emotional and psychological needs, financial assistance, restitution, and protection.
The focus was on empowering advocates in the execution of victim advocacy. The course included modules on victim advocacy concepts, victims’ rights under international and domestic law, victim assistance at various stages of the criminal justice system, securing access to justice and fair treatment, and victim compensation and restitution mechanisms.
The aim of the accompanying symposium was to gather perspectives from legal practitioners, academicians, first responders, and victim service providers to determine the focus areas necessary for conducting the accreditation course.
